The New Jim Crow Discussion Group, Part 2!

newjimcrow

Families and Friends of Louisiana’s Incarcerated Children (FFLIC) and Nola to Angola (NTA) are excited to host our second discussion group based on excerpts from Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow. Using the text as a starting point, we will explore how the prison industrial complex affects ALL our lives, across lines of race, class, and gender. Through a collaborative critical analysis of the text, we hope to bring people together to understand each other’s experiences and work together to resist criminalization in New Orleans. Come to learn, teach, listen, grow, collaborate, and find out how you can get more involved! The event will take place at the Community Book Center, 2523 Bayou Rd, from 5:30-7:30pm.

We will be reading Chapter 1 of the text this time (last time we read the prologue). Please email jesse.chanin@gmail.com to get a pdf copy of the reading. We will also have copies available at the Community Book Center the night of the event.

This is part of a series and all are welcome, regardless of if you attended the first event.

DINNER AND CHILDCARE WILL BE PROVIDED.
Please RSVP if you will need childcare.
